Media Advisory: DHS S&T to Host Cutting-Edge Biometric Tech Demonstration

The following news release was published by the Department of Homeland Security, Science and Technology Directorate on May 3, 2019. It is reproduced in full below.

WASHINGTON -- The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Science and Technology Directorate (S&T) will host a demonstration of cutting-edge biometric technologies on Thursday, May 16th at the Maryland Test Facility in Upper Marlboro, Maryland. The demonstration is part of S&T’s biometric technology rally designed to foster innovation, create partnerships across government and industry, and test concepts to meet challenging DHS operational needs.

Built on the success of the first Biometric Technology Rally held in March 2018, the series is designed to challenge industry to develop high-throughput biometric systems that meet the requirements of fast and accurate user recognition within DHS operations, such as security checkpoints. This year’s Biometric Technology Rally will focus on biometric (face, iris, or fingerprint) data collection systems, as well as biometric matching algorithms that can achieve challenging performance targets for high-throughput environments.

DHS will share the results of the rally to help industry improve product capabilities and enable the development of next-generation capabilities.
