Scranton, PA - Today, U.S. Marshal Martin J. Pane announced the arrest of Bernard Lewis - a 36-year old man with no fixed address.
On Aug. 17, 2019, the Scranton Police Department responded to the report of a stabbing in the 900 block of Johler Avenue. Officers investigated and later obtained an arrest warrant charging Lewis with Aggravated Assault and lesser included offenses. Attempts to find Lewis in Scranton were unsuccessful and the U. S. Marshals Service (USMS) Fugitive Task Force was asked to apprehend him.
Today at approximately 8:00am, the fugitive investigation led task force members to a home in the 400 block of Brevards Street in Statesville, North Carolina - where Lewis was taken into custody without incident. He was turned over to the Iredell County Detention Center to await extradition to Pennsylvania.
United States Marshal Martin J. Pane stated, “The coordination and cooperation demonstrated by law enforcement in this case led to an extremely dangerous and unpredictable fugitive being taken off the streets. It is our top priority to arrest violent fugitives, especially those who have no regard for human life."
The USMS Fugitive Task Force in the Middle District of Pennsylvania is comprised of 20 state, county and local police agencies, including: the Pennsylvania State Police; the Pennsylvania Board of Probation and Parole; and the Scranton Police Department - all of whom participated in this investigation.
