WASHINGTON, D.C. - The House Oversight and Government Reform Committee today released “Let Opportunity Scholars SOAR " in advance of tomorrow’s committee markup of H.R. 471 - the Scholarships for Opportunity and Results (SOAR) Act. The SOAR Act reauthorizes the D.C. Opportunity Scholarship Program (DCOSP), which ended under pressure from national teachers unions in 2009.
Speaker John Boehner introduced H.R. 471, the SOAR Act, on Jan. 26, 2011. Oversight Committee Chairman Darrell Issa, R-Calif., and D.C Subcommittee Chairman Trey Gowdy, R-SC are original co-sponsors. Senator Lieberman has introduced companion legislation (S. 206). The DC Subcommittee held a hearing on H.R. 471 and the DC Opportunity Scholarship Program (OSP) on March 1, 2011.
