WASHINGTON, DC - Yesterday, Governor Scott Walker (R-WI) testified before the House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform on the looming state and municipal government debt crisis. Governor Walker broke down the hearing in a reaction video, discussing his common-sense solutions to Wisconsin’s two-year budget deficit of $3.6 billion. According to the Center on Budget and Policy Priorities, 44 states and Washington, D.C. face budget gaps of more than $111 billion in FY 2012.
“All across the country, we’ve got 44 states and the District of Columbia that are facing critical budget crises, in fact in total more than $111 billion worth of deficits," said Governor Walker in the video. “That’s because we’ve got government that’s grown out of control. In many cases, government at both the state and at the local level that’s grown year after year after year with higher and higher benefit costs for public employees. We decided to tackle our $3.6 billion budget deficit in Wisconsin head-on."
