Two Massachusetts Fugitives Found Hiding in Maine

Portland, ME - The U.S. Marshals Service (USMS) announces the arrest of Luis Gonzales, 29, and Andy Escarfuller, 22, in Auburn, Maine. Gonzales was arrested on warrants issued by the State of Massachusetts for assault & battery with a deadly weapon, negligent operation, leaving the scene of a personal injury accident and other various state charges. Escarfuller was arrested on a warrant issued by the State of Massachusetts for rape of a child.

Gonzales allegedly operated a motor vehicle involved in a hit and run on Saturday. Massachusetts State Police located the vehicle and operator shortly thereafter. As they attempted to apprehend Gonzales, the vehicle was reported to have crashed head on into a State Police vehicle, backed up and then intentionally struck a Trooper outside of his vehicle while trying to flee the scene. The vehicle allegedly operated by Gonzales was also known to be occupied by Andy Escarfuller.

Information was developed by the Massachusetts State Police Violent Fugitive Apprehension Section (VFAS), Maine State Police and U.S. Marshals that Gonzales was at a residence in Auburn, Maine.

USMS Task Force members arrested Gonzales without incident at the residence in Auburn, Maine in a vehicle reported stolen out of Massachusetts. Escarfuller was also located at the residence and apprehended by authorities. Gonzales and Escarfuller were transported to the Androscoggin County Jail on a Fugitive from Justice charges pending extradition to Massachusetts.

USMS District of Massachusetts, the Massachusetts State Police Violent Fugitive Apprehension Section and Maine State Police assisted USMS District of Maine Violent Offenders Task Force with this investigation.
