Washington, DC - Congressman Elijah E. Cummings will provide opening remarks tomorrow at a two-day ethics training for members of the Secret Service. More than 100 senior and mid-level managers will participate in the training, which will be conducted by Johns Hopkins University.
In light of recent incidents involving Secret Service agents in Columbia, the agency is implementing an updated ethics training that will reinforce the new rules and standards of conduct that Secret Service Director Mark Sullivan announced last week. The agency expects to increase the number of these trainings and has expanded the training to include all agents.
Cummings sent a joint letter to Director Sullivan with Chairman Darrell Issa requesting more information to better understand whether there is a systemic problem at the Secret Service that may have led to the incident. The deadline for Sullivan’s response is today. The Congressmen also sent a letter to Department of Defense Secretary Leon Panetta requesting a committee staff briefing and detailed information about the investigation surrounding the 12 military personnel implicated in the incident.
