Washington, DC-Today, Rep. Elijah E. Cummings, Ranking Member of the House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform, issued a statement in response to the United States Postal Service’s announcement that it will not cut mail delivery to five days per week:
“Although I applaud the Postal Service’s decision to abide by the legal requirements of the Continuing Resolution and continue delivering mail six days a week, Congress must act now to pass comprehensive reform legislation to put the Postal Service back on sound financial footing."
Cummings introduced H.R. 2967, the Innovate to Deliver Act, during the last Congress. The legislation aimed to enhance the long-term profitability of the United States Postal Service through enhanced innovation, operational flexibility, workforce realignment, and regulatory relief. The House of Representatives failed to consider any comprehensive reform legislation during the 112th Congress, including S. 1789 which passed the Senate on a bipartisan basis.
