WASHINGTON - House Oversight and Government Reform Committee Chairman Darrell Issa (R-Calif.) today made the following statement on the passing of former Israeli Prime Minister Ariel Sharon:

“I am saddened by the passing of Ariel Sharon. He was a tough military leader in times of conflict and as prime minister, he was determined and consistent. I first met Sharon in 2001 and I quickly understood the depth of his love for his country. He was instrumental in developing our relationship with Israel and fostered continued diplomatic ties with the US and other nations."
