Washington, DC -Today, Rep. Elijah E. Cummings, Ranking Member of the House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform, released a white paper summarizing the findings of an internal report obtained by the Committee last night that was issued by the Office of Professional Responsibility within the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA). Although press reports indicated that instances of DEA sexual misconduct occurred between 2005 and 2008, this new internal report indicates that these activities began much earlier-and some date back as far as 2001.
“This new internal report details a truly breathtaking recklessness by DEA agents who are sworn to protect our country," said Cummings. “Today I want to know how this egregious misconduct could have continued for so long-for the better part of a decade-without being addressed."
The Committee obtained this report in response to a request to DEA Administrator Michele Leonhart for internal documents relating to allegations that DEA agents engaged in “sex parties" in Colombia with prostitutes funded by drug cartels. The Committee is holding a hearing with Administrator Leonhart today at 10 a.m.
