The following press release was published by the House Committee on Oversight and Reform on Nov. 30, 2017. It is reproduced in full below.

WASHINGTON - Today, House Oversight and Government Reform Committee Chairman Trey Gowdy (R-SC) released the following statement after the House passed H.R. 4182, the Ensuring a Qualified Civil Service Act of 2017.

“The EQUALS Act implements necessary reforms to benefit federal employees and advance the quality of our workforce. The current probationary period of one year lacks adequate time for proper training and assessment of all critical aspects of increasingly complex federal positions. I thank Congressman Comer for his work on this bill and his commitment to improving our federal workforce."

H.R. 4182 passed through the Committee on Nov. 2, 2017.
