Cummings Issues Statement on Supreme Court Decision in Janus v. AFSCME

The following press release was published by the House Committee on Oversight and Reform on June 27, 2018. It is reproduced in full below.

Washington, D.C. -Today, Rep. Elijah E. Cummings, the Ranking Member of the House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform-the Committee with jurisdiction over federal employees-issued the following statement in response to the Supreme Court’s decision in the case of Janus v. American Federation of State, County, and Municipal Employees:

“This is what happens when Republicans steal a Supreme Court seat. Today’s decision in the Janus case, by a conservative majority of the Supreme Court, overturns its own decision 41 years ago for thinly veiled political reasons. This decision is the result of a decades-long campaign by conservatives against organized labor, and it will do nothing but harm workers in the middle class and those aspiring to it."
