Oversight Democrats Expand Voting Probe to Texas and Kansas

The following press release was published by the House Committee on Oversight and Reform on March 28, 2019. It is reproduced in full below.

“The Committee on Oversight and Reform is investigating the decision to move the only polling site in Dodge City, Kansas-the population of which is 60 percent Latino-outside the city prior to the 2018 election," the Chairmen wrote in their letter to the Kansas Secretary of State. “...that the decision to move the polling site last year may have impacted the ability of Dodge City residents to vote in the 2018 election."

In today’s letters, the Chairmen explained that they are investigating:

* Recent efforts by the Texas Secretary of State’s office to purge voter rolls following an advisory from Acting Secretary of State Whitley that claimed that approximately 95,000 registered voters may not be U.S. citizens-after which numerous problems were identified with the advisory’s data, and a federal court stopped several counties from taking action based on the advisory, concluding that it “created a mess" and was “a solution looking for a problem."

* The decision by Ford County, Kansas to move the Dodge City polling site from the Civic Center, located within the city, to the Western State Bank Expo, outside the city limits and more than a mile from the nearest bus stop.
