Washington, D.C. - Today, Rep. James E. Clyburn, Chairman of the Select Subcommittee on the Coronavirus Crisis, issued the following statement in response to the update to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) school reopening guidelines, which follow new scientific evidence in advising that a distance of three feet between children can safely be maintained when masks are worn:
“Today’s update to CDC’s school reopening guidelines demonstrates that the Biden-Harris Administration is leading with science as it steers this country out of this devastating pandemic. Reopening schools safely is critical to our country’s future, and I am very pleased to see the Biden-Harris Administration working to ensure that students, teachers, and staff safely return to the classroom. With the American Rescue Plan providing urgently needed funds to help schools reopen and meet the needs of the most vulnerable students, and the Biden-Harris Administration working to make sure all school staff can be vaccinated quickly, I am confident that we can accelerate the reopening of America’s schools."
