House Energy and Commerce Committee Republican Leader Cathy McMorris Rodgers (R-WA) and Health Subcommittee Republican Leader Brett Guthrie (R-KY) released the following statement after President Joe Biden signed S.854, the Methamphetamine Response Act, into law yesterday.
“The federal government must be better prepared to address and prevent methamphetamine-involved overdose deaths. That’s why the Methamphetamine Response Act directs the Office of National Drug Control Policy to develop a response plan to this emerging threat.
“For a healthier and more hopeful future in America, this is one solution that Congress must build on to address the record number of overdose deaths, especially deaths caused by illicit drugs like methamphetamine laced with deadly doses of fentanyl. Too many people are in despair—a crisis that has been made worse by drugs surging across the border, the pandemic, and government enforced lockdowns.
“Congressman John Curtis led the Methamphetamine Response Act in the House. We thank him for his leadership, and we applaud our colleagues in the People’s House and the Senate for their bipartisan work to send this to the president’s desk.”
