Readout of Deputy Secretary Graves Meeting with Uzbekistan’s Deputy Prime Minister Sardor Umurzakov

Today, Deputy Secretary of Commerce Don Graves met with Uzbekistan’s Deputy Prime Minister Sardor Umurzakov to discuss the U.S.-Uzbekistan commercial relationship. Deputy Secretary Graves expressed the Department’s commitment to expanding commercial ties with Uzbekistan and supporting the country’s sovereign economic development goals. The Deputy Secretary also noted some proposals aimed towards facilitating increased commercial engagement, including an upcoming virtual Small Modular Reactor forum and the continuation of a working-level dialogue between the Department of Commerce’s International Trade Administration (ITA) and the Uzbekistan Ministry of Investments and Foreign Trade on green energy, agribusiness, and water technology. In particular, Deputy Secretary Graves nominated energy efficient technologies and waste management as topics for further engagement between ITA and the Ministry. The Deputy Secretary also confirmed Department of Commerce staff will accompany U.S. companies attending the upcoming Tashkent International Investment Forum scheduled to take place later this month.
