'The most pressing challenges of our time': Mayorkas names members to Homeland Security Advisory Council

Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas swore in 33 new members of the Homeland Security Advisory Council at its first meeting.

The appointments happened on March 21, the first meeting since the council's rebirth.

“National security issues have become indistinguishable from homeland security issues, placing the Department of Homeland Security at the center of tackling many of the most pressing challenges of our time," Mayorkas said, according to a press release.

Mayorkas had high praise for the new members as he welcomed them to the council.

"I am proud to officially welcome and swear in new members of this distinguished council, who are leaders of tremendous prominence, not only in their respective fields of expertise, industry, and profession, but also on the national and international stage" Mayorkas said. "Together, we will address some of the most fundamental issues facing our nation today, which impact millions of people’s lives daily."

Mayorkas chose to reconstitute the Homeland Security Advisory Council in an attempt to ensure that it aids the Department of Homeland Security in facing the challenges and taking advantage of the opportunities created by a changing homeland security scene.
