The Heritage Foundation’s new policy goals specifically name countering the influence of China as one of its main focuses as the U.S. Senate approves the U.S. Innovation and Competition Act calling for an aggressive stance against the Asian nation.

“It is long past time for the United States to stand up to the Chinese Communist Party’s malign and destabilizing influence, both here and abroad,” according to a joint statement by Heritage Foundation President Kevin Roberts and Heritage Action Executive Director Jessica Anderson. The Washington, D.C., think tank touched upon China in its new policy roadmap issued March 31 for The Heritage Foundation and Heritage Action for America.

The bill has a "focus on China." If reconciled it would boost domestic production of semiconductors, increase the frequency of foreign disclosures of U.S. land ownership and screen overseas investment in China, according to a bill summary.

The Senate’s actions moved the President’s vision forward on strengthening supply chains, increasing manufacturing in the United States and setting the country up to outcompete China and the rest of the world, White House Press Secretary Jen Psaki said, according to a White House statement. Since the bill now has to be reconciled in light of Senate amendments, Psaki said, "We look forward to the House of Representatives moving quickly to start the formal conference process as well."

A Heritage Foundation poll revealed that 74% of Americans believe that “China’s military expansion and aggressiveness is a direct threat to the national security of America” and 87% believe that “China has been stealing American jobs and technology for decades and it’s time we stop depending on China,” according to the release.

The Heritage Foundation has labeled China as “the most persistent and consequential challenge that will confront the United States for the next several decades,” according to the group's website.
