Each May, NOAA Fisheries celebrates how people share the shore—and sea—with marine wildlife in the week leading up to the Memorial Day holiday. This year, we invite K–12 students to participate in our regional 2022 Share the Shore & Sea Youth Art Contest.
In this age of selfies and social media, it’s easy to get caught up in the excitement of being close to wildlife, but marine animals need space to live their wild lives to the fullest. Many species are also protected by law. For their protection and your safety, view them from a distance—and help us spread awareness about responsible wildlife viewing in the Pacific Islands region through art!
How Do You Share the Shore and Sea?
We are looking for art that demonstrates awareness and dedication to sharing the shore and sea with protected marine species. Art should feature one or more of the following marine animals in the Pacific Islands region:

The contest is now open, and the submission deadline is:
- American Samoa: 10:59 p.m. on May 13, 2022
- Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands & Guam: 7:59 p.m. on May 14, 2022
- Hawai‘i: 11:59 p.m. on May 13, 2022
