(WASHINGTON) - Today, Rep. Bennie G. Thompson (D-MS), Ranking Member of the Committee on Homeland Security, released the following statement regarding the announcements from President Obama that he will elevate the Small Business Administration to a cabinet-level post and ask Congress for the authority to consolidate other agencies:
I applaud the President for his announcement today that he is elevating the Small Business Administration to a Cabinet Level agency. This move, along with consolidating redundant agencies with Congressional approval, will reduce the burden of our Nation's small businesses, which are the backbone of our economy. I will always be a champion of small, minority, and disadvantaged businesses - and will continue to fight for their opportunity to work with the federal government and the Department of Homeland Security.
