Congresswoman Jackson Lee & Chairman McCaul to Hold Houston Field Hearing on Human Trafficking in the U.S.

(WASHINGTON) - Tomorrow, Thursday, March 20, Rep. Sheila Jackson Lee, Ranking Member of the Homeland Security Committee's Border & Maritime Security Subcommittee, and Rep. Michael McCaul, Chairman of the House Homeland Security Committee, will convene an important Congressional field hearing entitled Combating Human Trafficking in Our Major Cities. Human trafficking is the trade in humans, most commonly for the purpose of sexual slavery, forced labor or commercial sexual exploitation for the trafficker or others. The hearing will be held at Texas Southern University in Houston. The city's commerce and proximity to the Southwest Border make it a magnet for domestic and international human trafficking. This hearing will focus on Houston as a case study to further understand trafficking in major U.S. cities. Witnesses will include state, local, and federal law enforcement as well as trafficking survivors.
