(WASHINGTON) - Rep. Bennie G. Thompson (D-MS) issued the following statement today after being nominated by the House Democratic Caucus to return as Ranking Member of the House Committee on Homeland Security for the 114th Congress:
I am honored to be chosen by my colleagues to return as Ranking Member of the House Committee on Homeland Security. I look forward to continuing to work with my colleagues to help protect and secure our nation from all threats. When we work in a bipartisan manner, I know we can effectively oversee the Department of Homeland Security and develop common sense solutions to ensure the nation is safe.
As we move into a new Congress, I plan to work closely with President Obama and Congressional leaders to fix our immigration system and continue to secure our borders. I am pleased by the progress this Committee has made, but there is still work to be done.
