(WASHINGTON) - Today, Rep. Bennie G. Thompson (D-MS), Ranking Member of the Committee on Homeland Security, released the following statement commemorating the fifteenth anniversary of the Sept. 11, 2001 attacks:

“Today marks the 15th Anniversary of the Sept. 11, 2001 attacks. On that day, our nation saw terrible death and destruction fueled by terror and hate. Since then we have come together as a nation to protect and rebuild our homeland. Even though we continue to make great inroads in fixing gaps in security, there still remains more for us to do. As we remember this day, we honor those who lost their lives and those who protect us every day - we will not forget their sacrifice. We must continue to remain vigilant in the threat of terrorism and remember that working together is the best way to keep our nation secure and resilient."
