KENNEDY ON FDA FUNDING REPORT

The following press release was published by the Committee on Health, Education, Labor and Pensions on Dec. 3, 2007. It is reproduced in full below.

WASHINGTON, DC- Today, Senator Edward M. Kennedy, Chairman of the Health,

Education, Labor and Pensions Committee, released the following statement in response

to the report presented by the Food and Drug Administration’s Science Board.

“The Bush Administration needs to take this report as a wake-up call that our citizens are

being placed at great risk every single day that it fails to provide the FDA with the

resources to do its job. This report also recognizes that our country's leadership in new

technologies and emerging science is at risk. Failure to fund the FDA will cost America

in terms of reduced competitiveness and lost jobs. This report is a call to action, and the

Bush Administration must heed the call."
