Murray on Department of Health and Human Services Coordinating With Hate Group to Restrict Women’s Health Care Access

The following press release was published by the Committee on Health, Education, Labor and Pensions on Feb. 13, 2018. It is reproduced in full below.

(WASHINGTON, D.C.) - Today, U.S. Senator Patty Murray (D-WA), Ranking Member of the Senate Health, Education, Labor, and Pensions (HELP) Committee, issued the following statement on news that officials at the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) closely coordinated with an identified hate group on policies designed to prevent Planned Parenthood from serving Medicaid patients.

“This is another clear and alarming sign that President Trump is more concerned with following a far-right ideological agenda than with protecting women’s health care needs. We should be focused on making it easier for women to get the care they need, not harder. We should be basing our policies on evidence and expertise, not extreme and dangerous ideologies. This isn’t hard-listen to women, listen to experts, listen to evidence. It’s concerning that President Trump continues to listen to extremists instead."
