Murray Statement on Meeting with Delta Air Lines

The following press release was published by the Committee on Health, Education, Labor and Pensions on May 15, 2019. It is reproduced in full below.

Washington, D.C. - Today, U.S. Senator Patty Murray (D-WA), ranking member of the Senate Health, Education, Labor, and Pensions (HELP) Committee released the following statement following a meeting in her office with a Delta Air Lines representative regarding their ongoing efforts to coerce workers and infringe upon their rights to collectively organize and join a union.

“Like so many others, I was appalled by Delta Air Lines’ viral anti-union poster last week, but what’s even more appalling is that this was just another example of a coordinated effort by Delta’s management to keep workers from joining together and advocating for better wages and safer working conditions. At a bare minimum, workers deserve an apology. But if Delta wants to earn back the trust of its workers, customers, and the public-management needs to immediately stop its anti-union scare tactics.

“I’m disappointed that in a meeting with my staff yesterday Delta could not commit to either. But this is not the end of my conversations with Delta management, and I am going to keep pushing them to stop infringing on workers’ rights with anti-union behavior. To Delta workers and to all workers, I am standing with you and I will keep fighting for your rights and your economic security."
