Murray on Acosta Resignation: President Trump Needs to Nominate Someone With A Clear Record of Standing Up for Workers

The following press release was published by the Committee on Health, Education, Labor and Pensions on July 12, 2019. It is reproduced in full below.

Washington, D.C. - U.S. Senator Patty Murray (D-WA), ranking member of the Senate Health, Education, Labor, and Pensions (HELP) Committee, released the following statement on the resignation of Secretary of Labor Alexander Acosta. Senator Murray previously called on Secretary Acosta to resign following the arrest of serial sex abuser Jeffrey Epstein earlier this week.

“As I’ve said before, Secretary Acosta’s sweetheart deal for serial sex abuser Jeffrey Epstein was one of the many reasons I didn’t think he should have been nominated in the first place, and he’s making the right choice to step down. Working families around the country are struggling, so President Trump needs to nominate someone quickly who has a clear record of standing up for workers’ rights, safety, and economic security."
