Murray Statement on Surprise Billing Lawsuit

The following press release was published by the Committee on Health, Education, Labor and Pensions on Dec. 11, 2021. It is reproduced in full below.

(WASHINGTON, D.C.) - Today, U.S. Senator Patty Murray (D-WA), Chair of the Senate Health, Education, Labor, and Pensions (HELP) Committee, released the following statement in response to a lawsuit filed to block the Biden Administration’s rule implementing a law Senator Murray passed to ban surprise bills.

“The Biden Administration’s rule implements the No Surprises Act just as we intended and will save countless patients from being left with an exorbitant bill for care they thought was covered by their insurance. I worked hard to make sure this law would end surprise bills and lower health care costs without raising them in other ways like through higher premiums, and I’m pleased to see Secretary Becerra working to make good on that promise and surprise bills while lowering premiums."
