U.S. Secretary of Energy Jennifer M. Granholm issued a statement April 22 in celebration of Earth Day, addressing the department's efforts to combat climate change.
According to Granholm, the DOE's investment in workers, communities, companies and the environment would expedite the nation's development toward a "clean energy future."
“In the more than 50 years since the first Earth Day, climate change has escalated into a crisis no one can ignore," Granholm stated.
Granholm also lauded President Biden's Bipartisan Infrastructure Act for investing $62 billion to "lay the foundation for a clean energy economy."
Granholm stated the Build a Better America plan would put the country on course to achieving 100 percent clean energy by 2035 and net zero emissions by 2050. Additionally, she added the plan would increase U.S. renewable energy independence and create millions of new jobs.
