Recreation Plan for South Sand Wash Open OHV Area Public Scoping Meetings

Craig Chamber of Commerce, Northwest Colorado Outdoor Coalition, and the Bureau of Land Management Little Snake Field Office are kicking off a process to complete a Recreation Area Management Plan and associated Environmental Assessment for the South Sand Wash Open Off Highway Vehicle (OHV) Area.

The process for the South Sand Wash Open OHV Area Plan will involve the entire community to define improvements to achieve the desired vision for the area.

The goals for the project include:

  • Planning for new recreational infrastructure such as shelters, campgrounds, and staging areas.
  • Highlighting our renowned natural landscape and limiting damage to sensitive sites.
  • Promoting economic development and creating partnerships for funding.
  • Providing increased wayfinding and interpretation improvements.
  • Partnering with community to support a variety of activities and events.
The public is invited to attend two open houses and provide comments. These first meetings will provide information on the project schedule and purpose and gather feedback from the public on future goals and implementation for the Open OHV Area. Information materials will be the same at both meetings. The meetings will be held on Wednesday May 4, 4-7 p.m. at the Craig Chamber of Commerce, and Thursday, May 5, 4-7 p.m. at the Maybell Community Center.

Additional comments may be sent to blm_co_lsfo_web@blm.gov or mailed to Attn: South Sand Wash OHV Area Recreation Plan, Little Snake Field Office, 455 Emerson Street, Craig, CO 81625. Written comments must be received by June 3, 2022. For more information visit: https://go.usa.gov/xzFer.
