An Immigration and Customs Enforcement Homeland Security Investigations Baltimore-led investigation resulted in the sentencing of a notorious MS-13 gang member to 50 years in federal prison.
Jose Joya Parada, 20, also known as Calmado, was sentenced for racketeering conspiracy, racketeering and related violent crimes in aid of racketeering, according to an April 20 news release. MS-13, also known as La Mara Salvatrucha, is known as a violent, international criminal organization that has members around the world wanted for various crimes
“This sentencing marks a tremendous victory for law enforcement and law-abiding citizens across the state of Maryland,” said James Mancuso, special agent in charge at HSI Baltimore, according to the release. “MS-13 is a notorious criminal enterprise, and Mr. Joya Prada is one of its most dangerous members. Any time we can take someone like this off of the streets, we are making our community safer for its residents. We are grateful for all of our federal, state and local law enforcement partners, all of whom can share in this victory."
The investigation was a collaborative effort that involved a number of government agencies including the Federal Bureau of Investigation; Department of Justice; Frederick Police Department; Frederick County Sheriff's Office; the Anne Arundel, Baltimore, Montgomery and the Prince George's county police departments; and various state attorney's offices.
