The following press release was published by the U.S. Department of Commerce on May 4. It is reproduced in full below.

Today, Secretary of Commerce Gina M. Raimondo and Minister of Economy, Trade and Industry of Japan Hagiuda Koichi convened the first Cabinet-level meeting of the Japan-United States Commercial and Industrial Partnership (JUCIP) to assess the work, progress, and achievements of JUCIP since its launch in November 2021. The Secretary and Minister noted progress facilitated by JUCIP, particularly in the areas of semiconductor supply chains and export controls. During their meeting, Secretary Raimondo and Minister Hagiuda expressed shared intent for JUCIP cooperation on semiconductor supply chains to be based on the principles of open markets, transparency, and free trade, with a shared objective of strengthening supply chain resiliency between the U.S., Japan, and other like-minded countries across the region. The Secretary also expressed her gratitude to Minister Hagiuda and the Government of Japan for their continued support and feedback that will help advance the launch of the Indo-Pacific Economic Framework. See the joint fact sheet of the first Cabinet-level meeting of JUCIP.
