Shandor new superintendent at Andrew Johnson National Historic Site: 'I welcome the opportunity'

A new superintendent has taken over at the Andrew Johnson National Historic Site.

Aaron Shandor has been named the superintendent of the Andrew Johnson National Historic Site in Greeneville, Tenn.

In 1935, Congress created the Andrew Johnson National Monument. It was founded in 1942 by Franklin Roosevelt and was renamed the Andrew Johnson National Historic Site in 1965.

"I welcome the opportunity to serve as superintendent of Andrew Johnson National Historic Site and am excited to begin as the park celebrates its 80th birthday," Shandor told the Interior Newswire recently. "I look forward to meeting and working with the staff and community.”

Other officials expressed confidence in Shandor.

“Aaron is an experienced leader with a strong background managing complex park programs,” Lance Hatten, National Park Service (NPS) South Atlantic-Gulf acting regional director, said in a recent National Park Service release. “His breadth of experience working with parks preserving key aspects of America’s development will serve him well as he forges expanded opportunities with park visitors, partners and stakeholders. I am confident he will be an asset to the park and community, at large.”

The Andrew Johnson National Historic Site had its 80th anniversary on April 28, and Shandor was at the location to greet the community at the celebration, a report from the Greeneville Sun said.
