Roth Announces Organizational Meeting; Markup of Tariff Bill and Vote on Nominees

WASHINGTON -- Senate Finance Committee Chairman William V. Roth, Jr. (R-DE) today announced that the Committee will hold its organizational meeting on Friday, January 22. At that time, the Committee will also mark up the Miscellaneous Trade and Technical Corrections Act of 1999 as well as vote on several nominations. The meeting will take place at 10:00 a.m. in Room 215 Dirksen Senate Office Building.

At the organizational meeting, the Committee is expected to approve the Chairman's choices of subcommittee chairmen, as well as finalize subcommittee membership.

The trade bill to be marked up Friday is the same legislation that was approved by the Committee last year, but never passed by the full Senate.

The nominations to be voted on by the committee are: Susan G. Esserman, to be Deputy U.S. Trade Representative, with the rank of Ambassador; Timothy F. Geithner, to be Under Secretary of the Department of the Treasury for International

Affairs; Gary S. Gensler, to be Under Secretary of the Treasury for Domestic Finance; Edwin M. Truman, to be Assistant Secretary of the Treasury for International Affairs; and, David C. Williams, to be Inspector General for Tax Administration, Department of Treasury. The Committee held a hearing on these nominees on Wednesday, January 20.
