Senate Clears Social Security, Commerce, and Judicial Nominees

The following press release was published by the United States Committee on Finance Ranking Member’s News on Oct. 26, 2000. It is reproduced in full below.

WASHINGTON -- By unanimous consent, late Tuesday night, the full Senate approved the following Social Security, Commerce and Judicial nominees:

• Stephen J. Swift, to be Judge of the United States Tax Court;

• Joel Gerber, to be Judge of the United States Tax Court;

• Troy Hamilton Cribb, to be Assistant Secretary of Commerce, Department of

• Commerce;

• Thomas R. Saving, to be Public Trustee of the Social Security and Medicare Trust Fund;

• John L. Palmer, to be Public Trustee of the Social Security and Medicare Trust Fund;

• Mark A. Weinberger, to be Member of the Social Security Advisory Board;

• Gerald M. Shea, to be Member of the Social Security Advisory Board.

The unanimous consent also discharged them from the Finance Committee, eliminating the need for the Finance Committee to vote. The Finance Committee hearing for these nominees was held Oct. 11, 2000.
