Comment on the Social Security Commission's Final Report

The following press release was published by the United States Senate Committee on Finance Chairman's News on Dec. 11, 2001. It is reproduced in full below.

Sen. Chuck Grassley, ranking member of the Committee on Finance, is a long-time advocate of preserving Social Security for baby boomers and future generations. Grassley made the following comment on the final report of President Bush’s Commission to Strengthen Social Security.

“The commission’s findings advance the Social Security debate. The commission underscores,

in plain terms, that doing nothing is not an option. If we do nothing, Social Security will go broke when baby boomers retire. Congress should take the year that the commission recommends to review the commission’s report, to listen to any recommendations from the President, and to respond with legislative action as soon as possible. As a nation, we’re not getting any younger. Baby boomer retirement is just around the corner."
