(WASHINGTON, D.C.) U.S. Senator Max Baucus issued the following statement regardingRobert Pozen’s comments criticizing a plan privatizing Social Security.

“I applaud Mr. Pozen for calling on President Bush to ‘back away’ from privatization ofSocial Security. Even the Machiavelli behind the President’s plan to cut Social Security benefitsnow recognizes that we cannot move forward to strengthen Social Security until President Bushtakes his harmful privatization plan off the table. I call on the President to heed Mr. Pozen’sadvice and disavow privatizing Social Security."
