The following press release was published by the United States Senate Committee on Finance Chairman's News on July 19, 2005. It is reproduced in full below.

(WASHINGTON, D.C.) U.S. Senator Max Baucus, the ranking member of the Senate FinanceCommittee, praised the Senate panel on Treasury Appropriations for including a measure toblock a Treasury Department rule restricting agricultural sales to Cuba. Baucus, who hasintroduced bipartisan legislation to reverse the rule, made the following statement:

“The Senate Treasury Appropriations panel’s unanimous adoption of an amendment that wouldblock enforcement of the new rule restricting agricultural sales to Cuba sends a strong messageto any regulatory agency that tries to rewrite the law. This new Treasury rule violates both thespirit and the letter of the law, and I applaud my colleagues in the Senate for joining the House ofRepresentatives in standing with American farmers and ranchers.
