Grassley comment on economic stimulus legislation

The following press release was published by the United States Senate Committee on Finance Chairman's News on Jan. 23, 2009. It is reproduced in full below.

Senator Chuck Grassley, Ranking Member of the Committee on Finance, issued the comment below about legislation moving through Congress to stimulate the economy. The Finance Committee is scheduled to consider next Tuesday a proposal put forward today by Chairman Max Baucus.

“I’ll be fighting in the Finance Committee to include an AMT patch in this legislation. Without it, at least 24 million middle-income families will face a tax increase, and that’s the last thing anyone needs right now. Beyond that, the more that the provisions of the bill stimulate activity in the private sector and the less that they run up the deficit with slap-dash government spending and a big entitlement expansion, the better. Job creation has to be the top goal, along with other help for families who are hurting, and I’ll be supporting amendments to move this massive bill in that direction."
