Baucus Comment on the Proposed Health Insurance Exchange Rules

The following press release was published by the United States Committee on Finance Ranking Member’s News on July 11, 2011. It is reproduced in full below.

Senate Finance Committee Chairman Max Baucus (D-Mont.) commented on the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) proposed regulation released today that will, once finalized, assist states as they build Affordable Insurance Exchanges. These state-based exchanges were included in the Affordable Care Act, of which Baucus was a principal architect in the Senate. From Chairman Baucus:

“Thanks to these state insurance exchanges, individuals and small businesses will have the ability to shop for the plan that’s right for them. Competition among insurance companies on the open market will provide customers in Montana and across the country a better deal. These rules are the next step in continuing to put individuals and small businesses, not insurance companies, in the driver’s seat."
