Hatch on Senate Democrats’ Tax Proposal

The following press release was published by the United States Senate Committee on Finance Chairman's News on Oct. 5, 2011. It is reproduced in full below.

WASHINGTON - U.S. Senator Orrin Hatch (R-Utah), Ranking Member of the Senate Finance Committee, issued the following statement today after Senate Democrats announced a proposal to fund the President’s jobs package through a tax increase that would hit small businesses:

“The definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over again expecting different results. This tax hike was a bad idea in 2009 and it’s a bad idea today. Some of my Democrat colleagues were right to reject a similar proposal when they controlled both chambers of Congress. Given the weak state of our economy, they’d be wise to reject it again. After all, whacking small businesses with this massive tax increase for another stimulus is bad for the economy and bad for job creation."
