WASHINGTON - Senate Finance Committee Ranking Member Ron Wyden, D-Ore., released the following statement after the Senate Budget Committee reported the Republican budget resolution:
“Budgets are a reflection of our nation’s priorities, not just loose numbers on paper," Wyden said. “Any serious budget plan must address the most critical economic challenge of our era - helping Americans climb the economic ladder of opportunity and get ahead.
“Unfortunately, Republican leaders in Congress are once again promoting a slash-and-burn budget that would decimate the safety nets millions of Americans rely on. That plan is out of touch with reality and will only serve to weaken the rungs on the economic ladder.
“We need a budget that puts our dollars to work fueling the economy by creating jobs, growing paychecks and giving everyone an equal shot at getting ahead - not abandoning our most vulnerable."
