Wyden Statement on the Nomination of Andy Slavitt to be CMS Administrator

The following press release was published by the United States Senate Committee on Finance Chairman's News on July 9, 2015. It is reproduced in full below.

WASHINGTON - Senate Finance Committee Ranking Member Ron Wyden, D-Ore., today issued a statement following the nomination of Andy Slavitt to be administrator of the Center for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS), where he has been the acting administrator since January 2015:

“CMS plays a critical role providing quality, affordable health care to millions of Americans through Medicare, Medicaid, the Children’s Health Insurance Program, and the implementation of the Affordable Care Act. Mr. Slavitt has proven to be an able leader in the time he has led the agency.

“For a position that has such a significant impact on so many Americans, I would be disappointed to see Mr. Slavitt's nomination held hostage for the sake of political grandstanding over the ACA - the indisputable law of the land. The time has come to work together productively to ensure all Americans have the security of health care coverage, and I look forward to Mr. Slavitt’s timely confirmation as a part of that effort."
