Wyden Statement on Passage of CARA Opioid Legislation

The following press release was published by the United States Senate Committee on Finance Chairman's News on July 13, 2016. It is reproduced in full below.

Senate Finance Committee Ranking Member Ron Wyden, D-Ore., today offered a statement following the passage of the Comprehensive Addiction and Recovery Act of 2016 (CARA), which authorizes programs to address the nation’s epidemic of opioid abuse:

“The bill now going to the President’s desk is no more than a half measure," Wyden said. “If Congress takes a political victory lap without adequate funding, this attempt to address the opioid epidemic will have been an empty promise. Until the job is finished and important addiction treatment and prevention programs are in effect, the opioid crisis will continue to rage."
