Wyden Statement on Trump China Tariffs

The following press release was published by the United States Senate Committee on Finance Chairman's News on Aug. 13, 2019. It is reproduced in full below.

Senate Finance Committee Ranking Member Ron Wyden, D-Ore., today released the following statement on Trump’s China tariff announcement:

“Today’s announcement is more proof that Trump’s tariffs have always been about getting the headlines he wants. He doesn’t care about actually changing China’s behavior, and he doesn’t care how these tariffs impact American families. Postponing tariffs on video game consoles and pet toys is giving Trump the stock market bump he wants, but he’s still going ahead with tariffs on books, school supplies and clothes that will hit working Americans the hardest. As I have said many times, I fully support going after China’s cheating on trade. But Trump’s incoherent posturing is hitting American pocketbooks without changing China’s behavior."
