WASHINGTON D.C. - Ways and Means Chairman Charles B. Rangel (D-NY) joined Trade Subcommittee Chairman Sander M. Levin (D-MI) in releasing the following joint statement today on completion of legal text to incorporate key policy changes into the pending free trade agreement with Peru:
"We are pleased to have completed legal text that implements the necessary improvements to the pending FTA as outlined in the May 10 agreement. The language achieves the goals outlined in the ‘New Trade Policy for America’ to strengthen provisions within FTAs pertaining to critical areas such as labor, environment, national security and access to critical medicines in developing countries.
"We will continue working to improve American trade policy, moving forward with legislation to address the growing imbalance in trade with China as well as overhauling and improving support for American workers."
