Levin -- Statement on Cantor Tax Proposal

The following press release was published by the U.S. Congress Committee on Ways and Means on March 21, 2012. It is reproduced in full below.

WASHINGTON - Ways and Means Committee Ranking Member Sander Levin (D-MI) today made the following statement in response to Majority Leader Eric Cantor’s tax proposal:

“Long-term tax reform is not served by political ploys based on the same failed supply-side economics we’ve so often seen from Republicans. It’s illustrative of House Republican priorities that in the same week they have proposed to end the Medicare guarantee and impose steep cuts on programs for lower- and middle-income families they are pushing an arbitrary and unpaid-for tax break that has been expanded from previous versions to benefit lawyers, lobbyists and financial consultants. Make no mistake: this proposal is not about helping Main Street small businesses, rather it’s about providing a debt-financed tax break that rewards some of the wealthiest taxpayers."
