WASHINGTON, D.C. - House Ways and Means Committee Chairman Kevin Brady (R-TX) issued the following statement after the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services’ (CMS) announced its first proposed rule on implementing the Medicare Access and CHIP Reauthorization Act (MACRA), which was signed into law last April. The bipartisan legislation permanently repealed the Sustainable Growth Rate (SGR), reforming how doctors get paid for treating Medicare patients.
“Last year my colleagues and I took historic steps toward a patient-centered health care system with the passage of MACRA. I’m pleased to see the Administration move forward with implementing this important law, and urge them to work with doctors, patients, and health care providers as they finalize the proposed rule. Our Committee will work to ensure that the bipartisan reforms in MACRA are implemented as Congress intended so that doctors can focus on treating patients, not checking bureaucratic boxes."
