Brady Applauds Conclusion of Litigation to Protect House Spending Power

The following press release was published by the U.S. Congress Committee on Ways and Means on May 18, 2018. It is reproduced in full below.

Washington, D.C. - Today, House Ways and Means Committee Chairman Kevin Brady (R-TX) released the following statement regarding conclusion of the case of United States House of Representatives v. Alex M. Azar II (originally known as House v. Burwell). It preserves a lower court ruling that found the Obama administration did not have the authority to make cost-sharing reduction payments.

“This is a victory for Congress’ authority under the Constitution. For years, the Ways and Means Committee and the Energy and Commerce Committee conducted a joint investigation that found these were indeed illegal payments made by the Obama Administration in their implementation of Obamacare. Today, the House was finally vindicated. I applaud Speaker Ryan and former Speaker Boehner for their work in standing up for the people’s House and the rule of law."
