SPRINGFIELD, MA-Today, Ways and Means Committee Chairman Richard E. Neal (D-MA) released the following statement on President Biden’s discretionary funding request for Fiscal Year 2022:
“President Biden is once again leading with our shared values and setting our nation on a new course, one of strength, opportunity, and inclusivity. Today’s discretionary funding request puts an end to the prior era of disinvestment and represents the level of investment needed to properly implement the American Rescue Plan and ultimately, build back better. From making our tax code more fair and equitable to ensuring access to Social Security and Supplemental Security Income benefits for our most vulnerable neighbors, these funding levels would help accomplish long-held priorities of the Ways and Means Committee while expediting our recovery from this pandemic.
“Many of our federal agencies have been working on overdrive throughout this crisis and these increased funding levels will allow them to improve their service to the American people overall, but specifically by administering unemployment benefits quicker and smoothly rolling out the advanceable and refundable Child Tax Credit. There is much to be done, but this proposal is another signal to the American people that brighter days lie ahead."
