SPRINGFIELD, MA- Ways and Means Committee Chairman Richard E. Neal (D-MA) released the following statement after the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) announced that it will begin posting weekend staffing and staff turnover information for each nursing home on the Medicare.gov Care Compare website :
“Resident safety and quality of care in our nation’s nursing homes are longstanding issues of concern, and greater transparency around staffing variability and retention will help us identify where facilities are faltering and address those shortcomings. Importantly, access to this information will provide consumers with a better understanding of staffing environments when making major decisions for themselves or their loved ones. In fact, requiring additional staffing information’s availability on the Care Compare website is a provision in my Nursing Home Improvement and Accountability Act of 2021. I’m very pleased that CMS independently took this key step toward greater accountability in America’s nursing homes and improved outcomes for residents."
